What sustainability means to us
Our brands and all involved manufacturers and suppliers have to justify why they meet certain sustainability criteria. Therefore, the whole value chain has to be as transparently as possible and comprehensive for all parties involved, including the end customer.
Our catalog of criteria is based on the 17 Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations. Using those relevant objectives and expanding them if necessary, we have categorised all objectives into three different criteria:
- Environmental sustainability describes the responsibility of conserving natural resources and protecting global ecosystems for future generations. This includes for example the preservation of biodiversity, climate protection, and, in general, a careful treatment of the natural environment.
- Economic sustainability describes an economic system that provides a stable basis for income and prosperity in the long term without negatively impacting social, environmental, and cultural aspects. That means safeguarding and sustaining human and material resources.
- Social sustainability recognizes the development of society as a path that enables participation for all members of a community. This includes a balancing of social forces to achieve a sustainable, globally equal, and liveable society in the long term.
All brands that we work together with have to pursue a clearly identifiable goal as well as a vision and mission that can be assigned to at least one of our sustainability criteria. We are making our decisions to the best of our knowledge and belief. For this, the companies' transparency is crucial.
